Induction of Arginase Activity with the Shope Papilloma Virus in Tissue Culture Cells from an Argininemic Patient
نویسندگان
چکیده
Inoculation of the Shope virus in tissue cultures of human fibroblasts from a patient with a deficiency of the enzyme arginase results in an induction of arginase activity, apparently virus coded.

Studies of the Mechanism of Action of the Shope Rabbit Papilloma Virus
These studies make plain that the Shope papilloma virus induces the production of an arginase in rabbit squamous epithelium, and provide evidence that the information for the synthesis of the enzyme is derived from the virus rather than the rabbit. This form of induction is therefore different from that brought about by chemicals such as galactosides (36). Striking differences were shown betwee...
متن کاملInduction of neoplasia in vitro with a virus; experiments with rabbit skin grown in tissue culture and treated with Shope papilloma virus.
Since neoplasia has been induced in tissue culture by means of a chemical carcinogen (5), the question arises whether similar neoplastic transformation of cells in vitro can be brought about by other types of carcinogens, such as viruses. This question was answered by successfully growing epidermis of the domestic rabbit in tissue culture and then inoculating it with the Shope papilloma virus. ...
متن کاملInduction of Tumors in Domestic Rabbits with Nucleic Acid Preparations from Partially Purified Shope Papilloma Virus and from Extracts of the Papillomas of Domestic and Cottontail Rabbits
A deoxyribonucleic acid preparation which showed infectivity and tumorigenic activity in domestic rabbits was isolated from the papillomatous tissue of wild cottontail rabbits by phenolic deproteinization procedure. The activity of the preparation could be completely abolished by its exposure to a minute amount (0.02 microg/ml) of DNAase. Antisera against Shope papilloma virus did not block the...
متن کاملThe Superinfection of the Rabbit Papilloma (shope) by Extraneous Viruses
1. The potentialities that viruses have for the superinfection of virus tumors have not been recognized nor has the fact that a single cell can harbor more than one virus. 2. Rabbit papillomas, induced by the papilloma virus (Shope), were superinfected by B virus, myxoma virus, vaccinia virus, and probably, virus III. Similar attempts at superinfection by herpes virus were without success. The ...
متن کاملChange in the Structure of Shope Papilloma Virus-induced Arginase Associated with Mutation of the Virus
The change in the state of the virus-induced enzyme associated with a mutation in the virus provides additional evidence that the enzyme is synthesized from virus rather than rabbit genetic information. This change in structure results in differences in stability of polymerization, degree of optical rotary dispersion (ORD) specific rotation, change in elution characteristics from carboxymethyl ...
